Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding parking regulations at CSUSB. If your specific question is not addressed, please call Parking Services at (909) 537-5912.

Questions Answers
When are permits required? Permits are required for parking on campus at all times - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Is there a grace period when parking permits are not required? Permits are required for parking on campus at all times - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
I paid for my parking permit and it has not arrived in the mail.  What should I do? Quarterly parking permits are mailed out for the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters.  Permits are not mailed for Summer Sessions.  Parking Services sends out parking permits to all students that
  1. requested a parking permit
    and
  2. paid for the parking permit through Web registration 15 days prior to the start of the quarter. Permits requested after the cutoff period will not be mailed

Reasons for not receiving your parking permit in the mail can include:

  • Incorrect address
  • Hold on student records
  • Balance due on student account
  • Payment made after mailing cutoff

If you do not have your parking permit prior to the first day of the quarter, please contact the Bursar's Office at (909) 537-5157 (SH-102 or UH-171A).  Parking permits are required and must be displayed 24 hours a day / 7 days a week .

If I paid for a Parking Permit, can I park wherever I want? No.  Parking permits allow students to park in student spaces.  They do not guarantee the availability of a parking space. The inability to locate a parking space is not a valid justification for parking illegally.  Your Parking Permit must be properly displayed in plain, full view, with numbers and dates clearly visible.
I only have a couple of classes a week; can I just pay for a parking permit daily? Yes.  You can purchase a daily parking permit from any one of the permit dispensers on campus. You can also purchase a daily permit from the Information Centers located on University Parkway or Coyote Drive.  Weekly or monthly permits can be purchased at the Bursar's office.
I ride a motorcycle.  Do I have to pay to park? Yes.  Parking Services does not have an actual parking permit to display on the motorcycle.  After paying the motorcycle-parking fee, a "Request to Not Display a Parking Permit" form should be completed.  This requires the driver to register his/her motorcycle with the Parking Services Department on a quarterly basis. For pay-by-day parking, please contact the Parking Services department for more information.
I have a short errand to run, can I park in a 20-minute Faculty/Staff parking space? No.  Students may NOT park in any space that is reserved for Faculty/Staff members.
I have a disabled placard.  Do I have to purchase a parking permit? Yes.  In addition to having a valid placard properly displayed or a license plate that signifies that you are disabled, your vehicle must display a current CSUSB parking permit.  Misuse of disabled parking privileges will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
If I lose my parking permit, can I get another one free of charge? No.  Parking permits are personal property. Parking permits may be obtained at the Bursar's office (SH-102 or UH-171A)
Why are there never any parking spaces available at CSUSB? The first few days of the quarter can be very busy.  Many students are attempting to register for classes, pay fees, purchase a parking permit, add classes, etc.  Try to find alternative transportation (i.e. walk, carpool with friends, take the bus, or ride a bicycle).  Contact Commuter Services at (909) 537-7433 for more information about alternative transportation.   You are responsible for finding a legal parking space.
I left my headlights on.  How can I get a battery jump? Assistance with battery jumps is provided as a courtesy by the Parking Services Department. Assistance is available 7 days a week. Please contact the University the University Police at (909) 537-5165 and provide the following information : location of vehicle (must be on University grounds), description of vehicle (make, model and color) and license plate number.
I locked my keys in my car.  What shall I do? Assistance with vehicle unlocks is provided as a courtesy by the Parking Services Department. Assistance is available 7 days a week. Please contact the University the University Police at (909) 537-5165 and provide the following information : location of vehicle (must be on University grounds), description of vehicle (make, model and color) and license plate number.
I received a parking citation.  Now what do I do? If you believe the citation was issued in error, you may contest the citation.  Follow the "Review" instructions on the back of the citation. You have twenty-one (21) calendar days from the date of the citation to submit an Administrative Review Request.
What happens if a citation is not paid? If a citation is not paid or appealed within twenty-one (21) calendar days from the date of issue, late fees will be applied along with a hold being placed on the vehicle registration with the Department of Motor Vehicles and/or student records.
